Attention Chris Cornell Fangirls!
All the anonymous commenting in the world won't make me like his ass-tastic new single or his bad tan.
Love it all you want, I don't have to! That's why it's the United States, and not Chris-Cornellistan, or something.
Good night and good luck.
Anyhoo...
There's a new Franz Ferdinand single. I was like the last person to know. You Could Do So Much Better was a much better album than people gave them credit for. The growth I expected from say, Interpol, Franz Ferdinand actually achieved on their second album, and I never gave them props for that the way I should. Anyway, I think I need a couple of days before I give an opinion on it. I don't trust my first impressions. Because ...
Last week I heard a leak of These Arms are Snakes' "Tail Swallower and Dove" for an article I am writing. I was like, "hey this is OK" Now it's Tuesday and I've been listening to it nonstop. It's got hardcore, prog and electronica, almost dancy elements in it (though they are clearly a rock-rock, not a "dance-rock" band, which seems to be all the rage these days) These guys had fun making this record; they have a wicked sense of rhythm. So I have to go back to my old policy of officially not liking things until after the third listen, because it took the third listen for me to really give it a chance.
And of course there is Battles, who I have gotten a co-worker and my landlord into while I am getting into them myself. I hate the term "post-rock," it makes me itch, but they do the more abstract elements of prog-rock, math-rock, post-rock whatever, in a way that's accessible and playful and interesting.

I might have to go buy that. I like me some Franz-much lot! It's be good listening music on the plane!
re: franz -- you weren't the last to know, b/c i just found out about it via this post. :-)
With Franz -- Yep. Another CD to buy. Thanks for the linkie because it's seriously good stuff.
Yeah I heard this song on the radio and I was wondering "Is this Franz Ferdinand?" Then the song ended and the DJ said "and that was new from Franz Ferdinand." So I was like "ok". I thought they had disbanded or something because I hadn't heard a new song from them in a few years now. But this new one is pretty good. Btw the new Chris Cornell sucks, and for even more sad embarassment, search his VH1 Fashion Rocks performance on youtube, not only does Timbaland re-define absolute jack-assery with his atrocious antics on the giant screen behind the stage, but hearing him say "C'mon Chris, C'mon Chris!" before CC comes out may make you vomit for a few hours afterwards.
