Bucharest weather (Vremea in Bucuresti) experiences heavy snowfall in winters with the temperatures falling below the freezing point. Snowfall occurs from December to mid-march. Mainly the temperature ranges from 5-6 degrees Celsius. Strong winds usually prevail throughout winters giving a bleak atmosphere. Temperatures in January can fall as low as -10 degrees Celsius. A record lowest temperature was observed in January 1942, with the temperature falling to -38.5 degrees Celsius. The winters in Bucharest are windy due to its location in Romanian Plain. The intensity of the winds falls below because of the urban areas. In winters the sport to enjoy is ice-skating, which is the biggest tourist attraction. Although the temperature in winter varies each year, the place still holds its charm for the tourists.
